An authoritative and updated introduction to the main theories and key concepts that make up the economic and political system of capitalism. The first part of the book presents the theses of the main historical theorists, Adam Smith (the invisible hand of the market), Karl Marx (the exploitation of the work of others by the capital), Max Weber (the foundations of economic rationality), Joseph Schumpeter and John M. Keynes (the instability deriving from the essentially monetary and financial characteristics of capitalism); in the second part the author takes into consideration the various institutions: exchange market, monetary system, business, capital and financial market, role of the state. Particular attention is given to concepts of high relevance such as economic globalization, economic inequalities, monetary and financial fragility. All themes that the author has updated specifically for the Italian edition.
