Whoever visits Kruja for the first time and starts climbing up the intricate path set in between dense pine trees, is first able to communicate and admire from afar, the image of a white city, which looks as if it is tightly screwed in a rocky relief, lacking vegetation, which creates the emotions of a beautiful, horizontal, slithering necklace.
Gradually as you get closer to the city, the silhouette of the smaller castle on the right becomes more apparent and allows one to discern the new Museum that is linked to its surrounding walls. Further, along the eastern side of the old castle, in the midst of the steep cliffs of the mountain, one can clearly see the tall stone tower - the symbol of this castle.
In the center of the small city stands the equestrian monument of the national hero "Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg".created by the master of Albanian sculpture the artist Janaq Paço, "Sculptor of Nation". The monument was inaugurated on November 28th 1959. It would gradually become the national symbol of the hero's image and would open the way for creating a series of other equestrianmonuments dedicated to this extraordinary and unique figure that has had and continually does have an immense impact on the Albanians, wherever they live.
